The Bible gives us remarkable mother-son stories. Hannah prayed Samuel into existence and then gave him back to God. Mary carried, raised, and stood at the foot of the cross for Jesus. Timothy’s faith traced directly back to his mother Eunice and grandmother Lois. These weren’t perfect moms — they were faithful ones. And their sons changed the world. Proverbs 22:6 — “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.”

Proverbs 31:25-26 — “She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.”

Isaiah 49:15 — “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!”
God compares His love to a mother’s love — and then says His is even deeper.
Jeremiah 29:11 — “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Philippians 1:6 — “Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
When your son seems far from God, this verse is your anchor. God isn’t done with him.
Numbers 6:24-26 — “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”
Psalm 139:13-14 — “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.”
2 Timothy 1:5 — “I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.”
Timothy’s faith started with the women who raised him. Your faith leaves marks on your son even when he can’t see them yet.
Proverbs 31:28 — “Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.”
Colossians 3:21 — “Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.”
Galatians 5:22-23 — “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”
James 1:5 — “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”
1 Peter 3:4 — “Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.”
Psalm 46:5 — “God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day.”
Isaiah 66:13 — “As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you.”
The fifth commandment isn’t just for kids at the dinner table. Honoring your mother is a lifelong calling.
Exodus 20:12 — “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.”
Proverbs 10:1 — “A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish son brings grief to his mother.”
Proverbs 23:22 — “Listen to your father, who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old.”
Proverbs 23:25 — “May your father and mother rejoice; may she who gave you birth be joyful!”
Ephesians 6:1-3 — “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. ‘Honor your father and mother’ — which is the first commandment with a promise — ‘so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.'”
Proverbs 6:20 — “My son, keep your father’s command and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.”
Proverbs 15:20 — “A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish man despises his mother.”
Proverbs 29:15 — “A rod and a reprimand impart wisdom, but a child left undisciplined disgraces its mother.”
Proverbs 30:17 — “The eye that mocks a father, that scorns an aged mother, will be pecked out by the ravens of the valley.”
Proverbs doesn’t pull punches.
Colossians 3:20 — “Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.”
Leviticus 19:3 — “Each of you must respect your mother and father.”
1 Timothy 5:4 — “But if a widow has children or grandchildren, these should learn first of all to put their religion into practice by caring for their own family.”
Matthew 15:4 — “For God said, ‘Honor your father and mother’ and ‘Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.'”
John 19:26-27 — “When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, ‘Woman, here is your son,’ and to the disciple, ‘Here is your mother.'”
Even on the cross, Jesus made sure His mother was taken care of. That’s the model.

Ruth 1:16 — “Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.”
Ruth said this to her mother-in-law Naomi — one of the most powerful loyalty statements in Scripture.
Mark 7:10 — “For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and mother.'”
Psalm 113:9 — “He settles the childless woman in her home as a happy mother of children.”
For his character:
“Lord, shape my son into a man after Your own heart. Give him integrity when no one is watching, courage when it’s costly, and gentleness with the people he loves. Amen.”
For his faith:
“Father, let my son’s faith be his own — not just an echo of mine. Root him in Your Word so deeply that when the world pulls, he knows where his anchor is. Amen.”
For his future:
“God, I don’t know what my son’s life will look like, but You do. I trust Your plans for him. Lead him to the people, the purpose, and the path You’ve prepared. Amen.”
When he’s far from God:
“Jesus, my son feels far right now. I can’t reach him where he is, but You can. Pursue him. Don’t let him go. Amen.”
